unwanted guests.......

you know that old sleepover tale where the "punchline," so to speak, is the phrase "the phone call is coming from inside the house"? after having been on vacation in california for approximately five days, aaron received a phone call from the prescott valley police department stating that they were inside our house. apparently, though we both vividly remember putting the garage door down, it had been up for several days and was making our neighbors worried, so they called the police. when the police got here, there was obviously no one home and therefore no one answering the door, so they let themselves in through the garage, which of course we never lock because the garage door is down, duh! they searched the house for intruders (i know this because all of the closets were open and the shower curtain was pulled back.....i guess they were looking in all the nooks and crannies) and then found a receipt hanging on the side of the fridge with aaron's mom's phone number on it. after all that ordeal, they got a hold of her and therefore aaron's cell phone number, and gave us a call. it was one of those embarrassing moments where, as they're explaining that the "normal" items they check for having been stolen were all still present and accounted for, all i am thinking about is that i left the ironing board on the kitchen counter and the laundry piled all over the couch, and that the house looks so messy at this point that it very well could have been ransacked- who would know!

and as if that wasn't bad enough.....last night i found another intruder in our bedroom. a G.I.A.N.T. spider. no lies, it was like the ones off of harry potter. (aaron does NOT believe me on this one, but it's true.) anyhow.....it evaded us all evening and therefore all i could think about while trying to sleep last night was how it must be crawling up the legs of the bed and subsequently my very own human legs while on its way to nesting in my hair or something equally as disgusting. this morning, i put some shoes on and stomped around the room a bit, and i am proud to say that i found him......in a pair of aaron's pants. i am relieved to say that he is now dead and no longer a worry, though i think aaron will probably want to wash the pants. :-(

  1. Creepy! Not just the spider but knowing that someone could have been in your house! I remember when my parents house got robbed, the cop asked me if my room always looked that way or did the robbers trash it? Embarrassingly, it always looked that way. I was only in junior high- he should have known.

  2. That's a crazy story! I'm glad you live in a town where your neighbors watch out for you and there's no need to lock your doors :)
