i know it is totally unlike me to post twice in one day, but as i logged off a moment ago i stopped to check my email and saw that frank mccourt, author of angela's ashes, has died at 78. he was a pretty amazing man, and a great teacher, who didn't even publish his first major novel until 1996, and then became, almost suddenly, a pulitzer prize-winning author- and all while he was in his 60s.
anyhow, as a teacher, i was pretty significantly touched by his novel, teacher man, about his time as a new york city english teacher, and wanted to give a literary "shout-out," if you will, to a great author from whom we will no longer gain insight.
