on being pregnant

being pregnant has changed me. first, my shape, although that's probably the obvious one. second, my memory loss, as you read about in my last post. third, and perhaps most alarming, are my sleeping habits. they say pregnant people have vivid dreams, and i would like to be first in line to attest to that fact. (and if you ask some people, fourth my emotions- it's a weekly activity to tally how many times i cried...and usually just over the weekend) anyhow, back to dreams: while pregnant, i have given birth (the birth was painless, and therefore in exchange for this great gift, our baby came out looking like a small chimpanzee...i can still picture her in my mind), hiked the grand canyon (while still pregnant, stopping only to purchase a $42 bottle of water and chocolate bar from one of my former students posing as a tuxedo-clad boy scout), and accused my husband of intentionally throwing himself out of an airplane with a defective parachute. now some might attempt to track the psychological depth behind these and other bizarre and oh-so-vivid dreams (nightmares?), but as with my post regarding the loss of my mental capacity, i am just going to assume that this just means the baby will have an incredible imagination, though perhaps a bit warped. totally logical, right?

in other news, BIG plans for tonight- i can't go to sleep early, lest i miss all the fantastic monday night television lined up (i know, i shouldn't let myself get so crazy on a school night!), however, i do plan to take a nap IMMEDIATELY upon arriving at home. after reading through two chapters of the catcher in the rye during 5th period today, i could tell that my mind was shutting down and my words were slurring together. fortunately, i have this giant bump to assure my slightly skeptical students that all i had to drink for lunch was a coke. ("i mean, who DOES that?")

all that said (and yes, i'm sorry that in the blogging world i'm commiting a huge sin by posting without any photos), we are down to only 11 weeks of pregnancy left, a baby shower on the horizon, childbirth classes eating up our sunday nights for what seems like an eternity (even my midwife seems appalled that they only offered friday or sunday nights), and then the first day of the rest of our lives. and yes, i know, it will never be the same. (why does everyone keep reminding us of that?) that's exactly what we're looking forward to, though- the next leg of a crazy adventure.
